Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven · Wall Drawing

Hell, purgatory, and heaven seem to differ as do despair, almost-despair, and certitude. One is slightly more bearable.

The first sentence of the text on this wall piece is a slightly altered translation of one of Martin Luther's 95 theses written in 1517 while he was a priest and professor of theology in the city of Wittenberg, and which soon after led to the Reformation. The inscription of the drawing reflects surrender as well as irony, as does the image, inspired by a screenshot of Dario Argento's horror film Suspiria from 1977.
